Any mommy can tell you, life with little ones can be rough. From school drop offs to poopy diapers and making dinner, a mommy’s job is never finished. Add a busy career to the mix and it’s a wonder you even have time for a shower. If you’re finished having babies and want your body back, you might be considering a “Mommy Makeover”, but do you really have the time? How soon after surgery can you get back to your regular, albeit hectic life?
What is a Mommy Makeover?
You love your little ones, but bringing them into the world certainly takes its toll on a woman’s body. Pregnancy and breastfeeding transform once perky breasts leaving them deflated and saggy. Abdominal muscles may be stretched out and stretch marks dance across the belly. Stubborn fat, cellulite, and loose skin all come with the territory of making babies. A mommy makeover is the solution, a set of surgical procedures that can restore your body to its pre-pregnancy appearance. The procedures needed are different for every mom and you’ll work closely with Dr. Lewis to determine which ones you need.
Here are some common procedures that may be part of your mommy makeover:
- Liposuction– You know those stubborn fat deposits that stick around even after dieting and exercise? Liposuction can remove them. Liposuction is a surgical procedure that suctions away this excess fat permanently removing it. This procedure can be used on many areas of the body (including the abdomen, thighs, buttocks, hips, etc.) focusing on reshaping those areas that give you trouble.
- Tummy Tuck– Remove excess skin and fat from your abdomen while tightening muscles that have become loose from pregnancy with a tummy tuck. This procedure tightens the abdominal wall, tightens skin that has lost elasticity, and removes extra skin and fat. Although it doesn’t specifically focus on removing stretch marks, many women find that many are eliminated when the excess abdominal skin is removed.
- Breast Lift/Augmentation– Say goodbye to sagging breasts with a breast lift. This procedure removes excess skin, tightens and repositions breast tissue, and repositions the nipple. A breast lift can be performed on its own using your own breast tissue or can be combined with breast augmentation for those that are lacking breast volume or that would like to increase their cup size.
- Brazilian Butt Lift– A Brazilian butt lift uses your body’s own natural fat to increase the size, improve the shape, and enhance the buttocks. This is a great complement to liposuction and can dramatically improve your figure after childbirth.
Recovery after a Mommy Makeover
Are you interested in a mommy makeover, but worried that the recovery period will take weeks or months? Some recovery time is needed, but for many of the procedures you can be back on your feet sooner than you might think. The actual amount of recovery time you’ll need depends on your body, your current physical condition, and the procedures that you require.
Remember that after any surgery recovery is gradual, but constant. The first day after surgery you might be unable to do much, but each day you’ll see improvement and be able to do more. Many women are able to return to work just a week after a tummy tuck with some liposuction patients back to work after just 3 or 4 days. Full recovery takes a bit longer. Talk with us about your expected recovery period; odds are you’ll be able to fit it into schedule, even with the demands of being a mom.
