A native of Richmond and one of the top plastic surgeons in central Virginia, Dr. Gordon Lewis has established a reputation for providing personalized care that meets and exceeds patients’ expectations. The board-certified plastic surgeon started his suburban Richmond private practice in 2010. He has been named a Top Doc multiple times by Richmond Magazine.
Dr. Lewis specializes in cosmetic surgery of the breast, body and face, but is still interested and involved in reconstructive surgery including breast cancer reconstruction, the treatment of skin cancer, the treatment of other problems that arise. His goal is to have the best possible results with the safest and most predictable options.
Fulfilling a Lifelong Dream
Dr. Lewis knew as a child that he wanted to be a doctor. He occasionally accompanied his father, who was a cardiologist, and witnessed firsthand how a physician can help people. That’s true of plastic surgery, says Dr. Lewis, which is a specialty that he naturally gravitated towards.
“I love working with my hands, and I love helping my patients,” he says. “I take to heart the genuine gratification expressed by patients who are pleased with the outcomes of their procedures.”
Dr. Lewis’ down-to-earth, engaging personality creates a welcoming environment for patients who are usually a bit nervous when discussing their aesthetic concerns with a plastic surgeon. During the consultation, Dr. Lewis lets the patient do most of the talking as they describe their cosmetic goals.
“My top priority is that patients have a positive experience and get the best possible result for every procedure.”
Education
Dr. Lewis completed advanced training in plastic surgery at some of the nation’s leading medical schools after earning his undergraduate degree from the University of Virginia. He obtained his medical degree from the Medical College of Virginia in Richmond and moved to Colorado for general surgery residency at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center.
He returned to Richmond after being selected for a plastic surgery research fellowship at the Medical College of Virginia, where he then completed a plastic surgery residency. During residency, he was the first resident to twice win the Dawson Theogaraj Award. Before joining a plastic surgery practice in Richmond, Dr. Lewis completed a year-long fellowship training program in hand and microvascular surgery at Duke University Medical Center.
